What is a symbolic ceremony?
A symbolic ceremony is a personalised, non-legal ceremony created to mark a significant moment in the life of a couple, family or community. Without the formal requirements of a legal ceremony, it can be written entirely around your story, values and the meaning you want the occasion to have.
Does a symbolic ceremony replace a civil wedding?
No. A symbolic wedding ceremony has no legal status. Couples who wish to be legally married complete the required civil process separately. The symbolic ceremony gives them the freedom to celebrate their commitment in a personal and meaningful way.
Which languages can the ceremonies be conducted in?
Our ceremonies can be conducted in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, German and Catalan. We also create bilingual and multilingual ceremonies for couples, families and guests who speak different languages.
Where do you conduct symbolic ceremonies in Portugal?
We conduct symbolic ceremonies throughout mainland Portugal, travelling to the location chosen for each celebration. Ceremonies may take place in historic properties, palaces, private villas, hotels, gardens, beaches, rural estates and other meaningful settings.
Can we write our own vows or personalise the ceremony script?
Yes. Every ceremony script is written from scratch and shaped around your story. We can also guide you through writing your own vows and work with you on readings, symbolic elements and contributions from family or friends.
Who can take part in the ceremony?
The ceremony can be as intimate or as inclusive as you wish. It may be created for just the two of you or include family members and friends through readings, personal words, symbolic elements or music.
